by sammizhu » Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:53 pm
Hello:
I am also interested in MS marketing at NYU scps program. Its Gmat's min request is 550. I have gmat of 600
and GPA 3.3 from a Canadian university. I also had two years experience being co-owner of a small retail business and 4 years experience in marketing in a Canadian gaming industry. Do you think there is any chance for me to get accept by this program? I am not show what is the average of the gmat for this program. I only know its min request of gmat is 550, and gpa is 3.0.

Sammi,

You do meet the minimum requirements. The question is - how do you plan to portray yourself as a solid MS candidate for NYU's mkt. program?

You should be fine as long as you are able to demonstrate strong communication skills. Be extremely clear demonstrating your goals and future plans.

Good Luck!

Thank you for your reply. I researched online about this program. However, there is not much information and some comments are negative. Could you tell me wether this program is worth to go or not?

Hi Sammi,

NYU's undergraduate marketing program is known. However, it is certainly not in the top 10 when it comes to their Master's in Marketing program. You are better of looking at business week and US News for further credible source of information.

Again, if you do want to go for a better marketing program, then you'll probably need to take GMAT again. What kind of program are you looking for? What is your criteria? Do provide me with further information.

If you find this post helpful, just hit on "thanks".

Good Luck with the research.

Thank you again for your reply. I actually applied NYU (scps) MS in Integrated Marekting and Baruch College Zicklin's MS in Real Estate. I just submitted my applications so that it usually takes a month to know the result. However, if both schools accept me, I am still not sure which one I should pick up. I don't want to study a MBA, not only because my GMAT score isn't that great but also I want to look for more specific skills since I have already had a BBA for my undergraduate. My working experience is related to marketing field, however, I don't mind to try a new thing such as real estate to learn in the future. As you know, the tution fee of the master program in scps is ver expensive. Compare to NYU, Baruch's tution fee is away cheaper. Thus, I am not sure which school I should select eventually. NYU has a good repution in the world. Baruch is famous for its local and its real estate program seems to focus on finance. However, whether scps program is worth to take due to its expensive tution fee, then that will be a big question for me. I also plan to work in New York city after I graduate due to the family reason. That also will give you some ideas.

Since you've already applied. I think rather than contemplating which school to go for - you're better off waiting to see whom do you hear back from. If you hear from both, then you've got this decision to make.

You never know NYU may end up giving you a scholarship. Keep an open mind and wait patiently. Keep me posted.
