Hi MBA Consultant,

I've read a number of blogs online and am somewhat discouraged about my chances of getting into NYU's Part-time Langone Program. I am hoping to get a realistic assessment of my profile:

I applied for Spring 2009...

Work experience: 4 years at investment bank
+ Assistant Vice President/Managerial Experience
+ Student Government Leadership Experience
+ Won leadership awards in college
+ Marathoner
+ Philanthropist
+ Solid recommendations
- Relatively low GPA, 550 GMAT

Any input is much appreciated. I am very excited about starting school in the Spring and believe I have a strong application (on 2/3s of the total app.). However I realize this is a tough environment and that my academic qualifications are on the low end and may hurt my chances. Thanks very much.

Dear mbahopeful1,

I agree with your assessment and do believe it is possible the low GPA/GMAT might prevent you from gaining admission. If you presented a compelling application demonstrating your quantitative ability and leadership potential, then you still might have a chance. However, you might want to consider applying to another program (or two) so you have alternatives. There are plenty of options in the New York area, so I think you will find some satisfactory back up schools.

Thanks for your response. I believe I presented a compelling application highlighting my past leadership experiences and future potential. We will see! I agree with you and have also applied to Fordham - a very good alternative.
