Male, 20 yrs old, going into senior year at an Ivy. Double major in Econ, Biology
Cum GPA: 3.75 (3.9 last year, and 3.87 last 2 yrs; dean's list last 2 years)
Econ GPA: 3.97
GMAT: 750 (Q49, V42, AWA6.0 98%)
Applying to MD/MBA programs, Round 2, with the MBA programs being top 10 schools (HBS, Tuck, Yale SOM, Wharton, Columbia, etc.)
Work experience is an obvious weakness compared to other applicants. I have significant research experience both in the sciences and in economics (part time, but adds up to a few years worth, all totaled). Have publications and was the central contributor in obtaining a multi-million dollar grant for a future study.
Also have an internship in Business Operations at a major US hospital (1 summer). I also have significant volunteer/charity experience, in providing medical treatment.
Have other strong extracurriculars that reflect excellent achievement in competitions and the ability to work in a team setting.
I can get strong LORs, from faculty and employers.
How are my chances at these programs now and what do I need to focus on to improve them?
Also, the schools say that one must be admitted independently to both the MD and MBA programs, but clearly they must evaluate the applicants differently than normal MBA applicants, as there are additional essays. What specifically is important to know when trying to maximize chances in dual degree programs? The MBA option is not my plan A. I would be OK with just getting accepted to medical schools only, and later pursing an MBA. This way just happens to save time and consolidate the educational time.
Thanks!
