Hi,
Can you please evaluate my profile?

I was the co-ordinator in the project which was awarded as the "The best project" in the business Unit in a quarter in a Financial Year. Work Experience Details: I joined as a trainee in my company and in a span of 4 years has been promoted twice to Tech Analyst currently. In these 4 years, I have played diverse roles in my projects ranging from developing applications to mentoring my team members. During my professional stint in Sweden, I was responsible for understanding client functional requirements and providing proper solution to them. I also co-ordinated the project with my team at India. I was well appreciated by my client for my work. Currently my role primarily involves developing my module, managing a small-sized team of 6-7 people and also mentoring them.

Post-MBA goals - I want to pursue an MBA for career enhancement. My short term plan after MBA is to work as a functional consultant in Electric Utilities domain. In the long term I plan to get into Smart Grid domain as I see lot of business growth opportunities in this field. I want to use my MBA education to learn consulting skills, gain knowledge in business strategy and organisational behaviour and imbibe required soft skills. However I am also open to explore new functions/industries after analyzing opportunities in business school.

Target Schools: London Business School, MIT Sloan, Tepper, Haas, Duke University (Fuqua), Darden, ISB

Hi,

Thanks for your post. You certainly appear to have a solid profile. Given the information shared you have a solid career trajectory to date, a good undergraduate record and a solid GMAT score. Your biggest challenge will be to differentiate yourself from others in the applicant pool.

A great way for you to stand out would be to highlight your international work experience in Sweden and your leadership skills evident by the award you received. These two items not only demonstrate strengths adcoms are looking for (global perspective, team and leadership skills), but they may very well help set you apart from others in the pool with a similar background.

In regard to your school selection, the list you have shared seems like a good one. You might want to also consider Berkeley's Haas school as it's course offerings may suit your post MBA goals nicely.

Best,

Stacey

Hello Stacey,
Thanks a lot for your reply. Haas School of Business is included in my target school list. I have one concern about my weakness in the area of extra-curricular activities. I do not have any note-worthy acheivement in the same. Can you please suggest whether this will have a severe negative impact on my profile? How to tackle this problem?

Thanks and Regards
Sandip

Hi,

In regard to your question about extracurricular activities, you will want to find something to engage in that is in line with your past and current interest. Meaning if you've never once set foot in a soup kitchen I wouldn't do so now. The adcom will view this is an attempt to log some extracurricular activities and may find it insincere. Perhaps you have a particular hobby or sport which you engage in on a regular basis? This is a great way to demonstrate a life outside of the office and can potentially give you some great essay topics.

Best,

Stacey
