Hi Consultants!

I would be very grateful if you could review my application and let me know your thoughts, as well as if you believe my current plan (in Goals below) sounds effective. Also, if possible, please comment on what and how I should highlight my entrepreneurship experience.

Thanks!

Academic/Background

Caucasian Male, US Citizen
University of Arizona Undergrad (GPA: 3.95, Majors: Management Information Systems, Operations Management, and Entrepreneurship, Honors College)
GMAT: 700 (V: 39; Q: 47; IR: 8; AWA: 5.5) - started process late, looking to possibly retake after this year's submissions
Financially Sponsored by Big 4 Consulting firm

Professional

3+ years of Big 4 consulting (currently a consultant), received highest ratings each year, on-track for being promoted again early next year (fastest path to senior consultant) - Heavy team management (3 - 8 direct resources), many cross-functional roles (Team Lead, Development Lead, PMO Lead, Release Manager, Usability Lead), lots of client interaction, solid quantitative improvements

Owner of 3 other start-ups that are currently operating:
1. House painting company - 8 months old, break-even was in 2 months, $200k in revenue in 6 months, leverages technology heavily for sales, surveys, marketing, preparing full Southwest expansion
2. Small Business Website Strategy and Technology Consulting company - started in high school for profit, now use as a medium to help small businesses grow pro bono
3. Sustainable Nutrient and Roof Top Garden company - creates sustainable and highly effective natural plant fertilizer, builder of sustainable roof-top gardens for local businesses

Extra-Curricular

Junior Achievement Sacramento Lead - work with local programs to set-up teaching sites, teach students directly
Led two teams to win college case competitions
Multiple other clubs and orgs in college
Internal company mentor
Internal company university recruiter
Public Relations chair in national fraternity

Goals/Other Information

Bridge gap in knowledge and skills from small-business startup to large business management, particularly in rapid (and proper!) expansion
Leverage network and skills post-MBA to directly start large-scope business venture
Started process late (can't retake GMAT until early November even if I chose to), possibly looking at applying to Stanford, Northwestern, Berkeley, MIT, and UCLA this year to see what happens and then, if not admitted, retake the GMAT next year in full preparation for next year apps
Secondary goal is to work for one of the big 3 management consulting firms

Hey there,
Your name says it all. Company Starter. And with the numbers you are showing and the success you have, you will be attractive to many candidates. I don't think you will need to retake the GMAT, you have an excellent score, that is within 15 points of the average of the best schools. But you have LOTS of other stuff that no one else has, not limited to Sponsorship, a 3.95 GPA and the experience of having started three companies. With such stories and background you have a chance at any business school in the world.

Rapid expansion of your company is a great goal, especially since it has been so successful so far.

So, forget about the GMAT, just write an amazing application... it's time...
And good luck!

Thank you very much, Jon, I truly appreciate the feedback.

I am currently struggling to define my short-term/long-term goals. Do you, or any other admission consultant, think it would be stronger if I say I would like to bridge the gap in order to expand my current businesses, or that I have used my current businesses to identify that my weakness is expanding/growing into larger businesses and I would like to then apply those skills to a bigger/better business in the future?

Thanks!

I think far more believable would be to take one of your businesses, and show how you would like to transform it into a world-class leader. I don't feel there's any advantage to presenting a NEW business just because you made mistakes, because you will likely make more mistakes in any new business. :)

But by choosing an already existing business, you are working with something concrete and strong, and this is to your advantage.
