fenniecakes wrote:Hello,

I am a 27 year old female, minority, but grew up in Canada. I would be 28 (and almost 29) at matriculation if entering in the fall of 2012 and would graduate in the spring of 2014 at age 30.

Undergrad: Business Major, 75% cumulative average from one of the main Canadian universities on the east coast, (I think 75% is similar to an American GPA of 3.3 according to online research, but I think this is dependent on the scale/calculation used)

GMAT: In progress, aiming to take it this summer. Aiming for 700+

Work Experience: Worked at a large consulting firm straight from undergrad for past 5 years with no break; promoted twice, currently at the Manager level, extensive list of clients/projects across North America, strong performance assessments throughout

Extra-Curriculars: Extensive community involvement across a number of charities in key leadership roles, managed sponsorship budgets and led efforts that raised tens of thousands of dollars, recipient of awards, extensive volunteering

Why MBA: Want an advanced degree to help land positions working in the non-for-profit/environmental sector, want to expand networks

Target schools: Stanford, Berkeley, Northwestern, Harvard, Columbia

Main questions:
- What are my chances at the target schools above?
- Will my GPA be a hinderance or does it matter since I'm not from the US so it's harder to benchmark
- What do you think are my main weaknesses(Controllable (GMAT) as well as non-controllable (Age a bit high for Stanford/Harvard?)
- I noted my extra-curriculars from post-undergrad only; have a whole bunch of others from 'undergrad' - should I count those or are 'old news'
- Is it worth highlighting I went to a really well respected high school?

Thank you very much in advance.
Thanks for the posts. My answers are below.

Main questions:
- What are my chances at the target schools above?

Assuming your GMAT is >700, you have a competitive profile for Kellogg, Berkeley and CBS. I believe that Stanford and HBS would be stretch programs mainly because of your age/experience level. You may also want to consider Yale, MIT Sloan, Michigan Ross.
- Will my GPA be a hinderance or does it matter since I'm not from the US so it's harder to benchmark
I don't see your GPA as a problem, unless there was a downward trend.
- What do you think are my main weaknesses(Controllable (GMAT) as well as non-controllable (Age a bit high for Stanford/Harvard?)
Age as I mentioned. If your GMAT is 710 or above, I don't see it as a weakness.
- I noted my extra-curriculars from post-undergrad only; have a whole bunch of others from 'undergrad' - should I count those or are 'old news'
I would focus on the more recent commitments, but certainly include the college ones.
- Is it worth highlighting I went to a really well respected high school? No.
