Do valid GMAT scores get 'OLD' after 3 years?

Hello Sir/Madam,

I had a question regarding the GMAT test. I recently graduated from University of California, Irvine with a GPA of (3.7/4.0)
I got an offer from a small start up in Orange County and I have been working there since almost 1year now. I am planning to write my GMAT by end of 2010 and thats when I will be completing exactly 1 year in this company. I am planning to apply for MBA 3-4 years from now on. I will definitely be applying by end of 2014 (before my scores expire which is 2010 + 5 years by end of 2015). The decision to write the GMAT so early is because I have been preparing for a while and I have 1 month off in December at my work place. Will my scores get old by the end of 2014? Also there is a rumor that the format of GMAT will change before 2014! Will that hamper my chances to a good B-school ?

Any advise from the experts on this issue will be highly appreciated.

Hi sushantdewan, Firstly congratulations on your graduation with a nice GPA. I appreciate your passion and aspirations to study MBA 3-4 years down the line. Yes the format of GMAT is definitely going to change in near future, June 2012 in particular. A new section called 'Integrated Reasoning' will be added. Since you have been preparing for a while now and you also have entire 1 month off, it makes sense to write GMAT by end of 2010. Yes, you must definitely go for it, provided that you think you are well-prepared.

Your GMAT score will be officialy valid for 5 years. However, most of the b-schools want to see your recent score and don't want to see scores older than 3 years.

Though you will have GMAT score based on older format and you will be applying at a time when the format of the exam has been changed, I believe that this should not impact or hamper your chances of getting into b-school of your choice. Hope that helps!
