Low GMAT score

by startfresh » Wed Aug 04, 2010 10:39 am
Hi,

Was wondering if you could help me with the kind of colleges I should be applying to for the batch of Fall 2011. My profile is as follows :

24, Female, India
GMAT : 640 (let me know if I should retake it)
TOEFL : Not yet appeared
Work ex: 4 years in the hospitality industry, of which 3 have been in Hotel Sales in leading 5 Star hotels, of which 2 have been with an MNC (Hyatt). Steady career growth over the whole period as well

I am leaning towards universities in Europe, but am open to US as well. This is my wishlist :

HEC Paris
Essec Business School
Rotterdam School of Business
Cranfield School of Management

All this after some very basic research. I am keen on submitting my applications for the 1st rounds, so please also let me know by when I should reappear for the GMAT (if at all)

Looking forward to your reply,
Thanks !!

Dear startfresh,

I think you have identified a solid group of schools. However, I do think you should consider taking the GMAT again if you feel you can increase your score. Gaining admission as an international applicant is highly competitive and a higher GMAT will help you in this regard. I think your work experience is interesting and a bit different from many Indian applicants, so don't discount the importance of your essays, resume, and recommendations. These components can be used to distinguish you from the competition and show how you will be a valuable contributor to the program. GMAT scores take about 3 weeks from the test date to reach the school, so try to take the test again at least 3 weeks before the deadlines.

Good luck,
Lisa
