From 540 to 700

by monaquites » Tue Mar 03, 2009 10:05 pm
Hi everyone,

I would like you guys opinions to see what should be the next step to achieve my goal . I took the GMAT last week and scored 540. My goal was to get something above 600 (since I was scoring 590-610 in the practice tests). I don't know what went wrong. Anyway...I won't be able to start school this year since my score is too low. So I decided to take the test again in 2/3 months from now but I don't know from where to restart. My goal is a 700+ score.

GMAT score:
Quantitative (36/46)
Verbal (28/48)
Total (540/48)

I have been through the OG 11 and Princeton Review. Should I do this books again? Should I buy new books?

Thank you guys,

THis is like my exact story

WHat Im planning to do is

Target ginving it in July since i have a full time job and a million other things to look after

1. GO through OG(10th and 11th edition) again. I mean each and every question. I want everything to be on my tips.
2. Take one test every weekend.
3. Put in 2-3 hours everyday, regardless
4. Learn all the grammer notes, sentence correction , flashcards etc

I plan to target this in the next month.

I will then do another book the same way and maybe increase my tests. I still havent touched the second gmat prep.

I might just be able to give my test a little ahead of the time mentioned here. I will not book a date till i get consistent scores of above 700+ for a fixed period of time. And then just take it forward from there.

Please do let me know what resources i shd undertake after i finish the 2 OG books.

Thank u....

I would also get the book "Cracking the GMAT" by Princeton. If you follow the Verbal tips and stay calm while taking the exam, it is a breeze. Also I found while taking the GMAT verbal, that repeating the answer in my head as though I were talking to someone, helped me to get a higher score. Don't ask me about the quantitative portion. I am still working on that.

I think I am going to do the OG 11 and the Princeton Review again. And... Buy the SC Manhattan...I heard a lot of good things about it. I might go through the quantitative part of Kaplan. I felt like the Princeton Review doesn't go very in-depth in that section. Any more ideas on how to improve my quantitative score?

Thanks guys

Guys plz do count OG 12 which will be released on March 30th for your preparation. It has a 400 questions which were unseen before as per the review. Also the latest edition of Manhattan SC seems to be very comprehensive than the earlier edition.
