Can I get into NYU Stern Langone Part-time MBA

Hi there and thanks for your help

Do you think I can get into Langone?

Education:
Fordham University
Cumulative GPA: 3.65 Major GPA: 3.86
Dual Major: Finance / Information Systems

GMAT: 660 Q45/V36


I am 22 and graduating Fordham in May. I have zero work experience because I am a full-time student but have had numerous internships in Business related fields (I/S and Accounting) Also, I have pretty decent community service and club stuff.

I know the no work experience is a biggie but I am applying to Fordham's 5 year degree (P/T) and will get an MBA with 30 credits instead of 60. So my plan is to start my career and take courses at night and get the whole MBA thing over by the time I am 24-25.

But do you think I should try for Langone? If not should I wait a few years and get work experience than try?

Hello,

I would say the lack of experience would be a drawback for the Langone program. Moreover, the Langone program is designed for people who are employed and who will both bring their current work experiences to the classroom and apply their learning back at work. If you are able to gain employment, whether it would help qualify you for Langone depends on what that job is, i.e., on what level you're performing, its relevance to your goals, etc. You would want to show that you're at the experience level of your classmates in order to contribute on par with them. I think most likely it would make sense to wait a couple of years, based on the information provided.

Hi,

I am also wondering how my profile would stand up for NYU Langone admission.

I just took the GMAT, got 690. Did well on verbal but only 64 percentile on quant.

I went to Columbia University, had a 2.98 gpa. Was a key member of the varsity baseball team....if that helps.

I have been working for 2 and a half years as a credit analyst, and half a year before that at a different bank as a credit analyst.

Should I retake the GMAT? I did not study at all, only took 2 practice tests. Scored 690 and 730 on the practices. I know I could improve my quant score easily, with some review of stuff like permutations, geometry, etc. The app deadline is September 15, so I'd have about a month to study.

Hello,

Congratulations on the improved GMAT! The new score puts you in a much better range for Langone. An even higher GMAT would still help, because the GPA is low (even from Columbia it's still low). They will want to see evidence of quantitative capability somewhere -- in the GMAT, transcript, or even work -- so give some thought to where this appears in your application. Also, do keep in mind Langone's emphasis on admitting applicants who are employed.

I did not improve on my score. I am a different poster than the OP. I am currently employed. My main question is, should i retake the GMAT in a month? I am sure I will be able to vastly improve my quant score with some studying, since I did not prepare much for the GMAT besides 2 practice tests the week before.
