Profile Evaluation Please -

Age - 34 yrs.

Working as Assistant Vice President in US for one of the big firm. Overall I have close to 12 years of experience. Leading a technical team of 4-5 for last 2 years. Before that I was in several lead positions and worked as Team lead, Project Manager etc.

GMAT 650 (Q49 V30) AWA 5.5

GPA: 3.8 Computer Science engineer

Extra Curricular : Actively participated in many College events and Alumni association.

Target Programs : Looking for some suggestions here, Initally I thought of full-time 2 years, but after doing some research doesn't looks like it is a best fit for me, with work-ex years and age group. I am looking for part-time/executive MBA from some top schools, Like Duke, or Kellog or Chicago Booth. Also looking for some suggestions on a 1 year full-time from Emory. With the gmat score I think Kellog full-time 1 year will be a streach.
Should I retake GMAT for any of the above program?

Post MBA- Interested in Strategic or General Management, and/or progress my carrier to Executive Management.

MY Questions are: What are my best fit Programs and what I can do to maximize, either GMAT wise or application wise.

Part Time and Executive programs and definitely the ones for your profile. If you did a full time program, you'd probably be twiddling your thumbs a lot :)

As for if you need to retake the GMAT, probably not. How many people do you lead at work? With twelve years experience, and if you are in a big firm as you state and in a good industry, that can be enough to get you in. But what's important is to show what you can get out of it. For example, if you can get your company to support you, and perhaps get a promise for a promotion of some sort after the MBA, it would be mega helpful!

Thanks Jon for your valuable feedback.

THat is the challenge, 'what you get out of it' which leads in debating myself. While fishing around, talking to many of my contacts, I feel if you are not getting into top 10-20 programs in Part-time or EMBA, the time and finance investment may not be worth of it.


So these are my picks after doing very little analysis.

1. EMBA from Duke, Ross
2. Part-time from Kellogg, Chicago Booth.
3. One-Year Full time Emory

More towards the #1 and #2. What are my chances and are their any other opportunities?
Can I see myself in advance carrer growth with any of the above programs. I don't want to change carrer like Going all together in Finance or something, but more towards General Management, Entrepreneurship or Strategic Management. Well with some family background, I think retail can be one place I would like to stand myself, but then again not sure how much this all will shape up.
I know all of these three are very different, but I am not able to decide and seeking your help.

I tend to agree that for Part time and EMBA programs unless you are going for say the top 20,25, if you don't have a job lined up at the end of the program and aren't being sponsored, it might not be worth it for you. So I think your decision is pretty on the ball there.

As for your list, it seems like a good one. If you are already thinking of one year programs, I would also look at Johnson's accelerated program: https://www.johnson.cornell.edu/Academic ... d-MBA.aspx

And you are right for not wanting to change careers here, because they programs don;t usually give you the time and/or space to totally change functions or industries, but rather should give you a boost in your own industry and function (a jump in Gen Management role usually) which is good cause it seems to be what you are aiming for.
