Decision for GMAT 2012

by abhinavkoul » Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:55 am
Hello All,

I would like to request you to pour in some valuable suggestions here ...
I gave my GMAT in 2010 - 680 (Q49, V33, AWA4.0)
Applied to UK based colleges - Got an admit from Manchester Business School (Zero Schol & Uncertain Visa regulations- rejected the offer).

Now I am planning to reapply during 2012 to US colleges. By June 2012, I will have 6 yrs of work exp in IT - which means I will be falling into IIM category (Indian IT Male).

I am wondering if I should re-take the test as I have ample amount of time available?

Please suggest.

Abhinav,

IMO you should definitely go ahead and retake GMAT , not because your score is less , but because you fall in the dreaded IIM ( Great Word BTW :) ) category .Even i have over 4 years of experience in Top IT MNCs , but from the look of it , it doesn't seem that even 700 is a "safe" score . 700 is just a par score for Indian IT Candidates.

Thanks!

Dear Abhinav,

If you have the resources (time, money, motivation), then a GMAT retake is a good idea. Scoring 700+ will make you more competitive and put you on par with many of the similar applicants in the pool. I also encourage you to spend time assessing how your background is unique and could help you to stand out from those with the "IIM" profile. Perhaps you can seek out leadership in the community over the next year? or take on leadership of a team or project at work?

Good luck,
Losa
