In selecting schools you should look for two things:

First, identify schools for which your GMAT and GPA will be strengths, not weaknesses. This is particularly important for technically trained applicants from India since the pool is so large. That doesn't mean you should never apply to your dream school because of a low GMAT; it simply means your chances are low and you will have to have exceptional credentials in other areas and brilliant essays to convince the school to accept you over someone with a comparable background and a 750 GMAT.

Second, look for schools that offer the curriculum that matches your career needs. Most schools post course lists online. You can see the courses and requirements and determine whether they will fit you for your desired career.

A great book to guide you through the process is Richard Montauk's "How to Get Into the Top MBA Programs". THe book is available at most book chains and online. Montauk covers subjects from school selection and financial aid to essay writing and interviewing.

Good luck,
Tani Wolff
