NYU’s Langone is a great program. No, it’s not too late. Except for a somewhat low GMAT, your profile looks solid for the program. A compelling set of essays is a must, considering the competitiveness of the program. Make sure your goals essay is very sharp – concrete and specific. Good luck!

I am concerned with the word limit on the NYU eassys i.e 250 words.
This is very tight limit to talk about short term and long term career aspirations. Is the Admission board really stringent about it. I mean , do the commas , monosyllable and bisyllable words (eg. prepositions, conjunctions) are also strictly enforced in the work count.

I agree it’s very tough. You can allow yourself a little more, up to 10%, but I suggest not beyond that. Anything longer will be noticeably longer to the eye, and will indicate to the adcom that you aren’t willing to or able to follow instructions.

With such short essays, don’t focus on all that you want to say so much as your 1-2 essential points, and make those top-priority points clear in the essays. Hyphenated words count as one word, but all words, whether the simple articles “a” and “the” to a five-syllable word, count as one word.

Difficult as it is, it’s doable – I’ve seen it numerous times! But the trick is to approach the essays with a different mindset. You simply won’t get your whole story in these essays, so don’t even try. But that’s okay, because clearly that’s not what NYU is looking for. Think from their perspective – why do they have these word limits, and what does it mean they’re looking for?
