JD interested in a MAcc -- opinions?

by aroundtown » Mon Feb 09, 2009 2:06 pm
Hello:

I am a lawyer with 1-2 years experience in tax law and trusts & estates practice. I am interested in pursuing a masters in accounting, with the goal of obtaining a CPA and pursuing work with a big accounting firm doing tax consultancy work. I graduated from law school with a 3.2 GPA and am more interested in studying locally (NYC) such as Baruch or SUNY Albany than studying at a top 20 program. I scored a 680 on my GMAT.

Basically, I wonder whether pursuing an MAcc is a reasonable means to my end. The purely legal field here is very soft right now and I am not convinced an LLM would be my best route into big accountancy.

I am very open to anyone's thoughts and thank you upfront.

Is this the wrong forum to ask this question? Any direction would be helpful...
