Need advice in selecting schools

by lparvathy » Sun Aug 29, 2010 2:39 am
Hi,

I want advice and suggestions for selecting B schools to send in my applications.
I gave my GMAT and my score is not an impressive one. The GMAT score is 660
Verbal Scaled-35
Maths Scaled-45
AWA-6.0

Am not sure how to convert my Indian marks to GPA but it should be around 3.7 or 3.8
I did my Electrical Engineering from a A grade regional college and has 5 years of experience with an year outside India.

Activities include- Community services although i am not sure how to put this across the admission board.
Classical Music singer- Have a degree for this.
Organised events at undergraduate and school level.

Wanted to know which B schools i should apply and was wondering about my chances at Rotman,Coloumbia,Emory,Duke. Would ISB be a stretch?
Please respond with your valuable suggestion so that I can apply accordingly.
Thankyou.

Dear lparvathy,

I encourage you to read our sticky on school selection for tips on identifying schools. School choice is a personal choice as there are many factors unique to what you are wanting from business school versus pure name recognition. The schools you listed in your post would all be reaches for your current profile. Your GMAT is low relative to other applicants to these schools with similar profiles. If you plan to apply with your current GMAT score, I would suggest looking at some schools with GMAT averages in the 650 or lower range as these are where you will be more competitive.

Good luck,
Lisa

Thanks Lisa for the suggestion.
I will research on schools with median scores around 650.
