Rec letter and profile evaluation!

I am 27 year old south america with a degree in System Engineering (3.3 gpa). I have 3 years (aprox) of experience: 1 year as market research analyst in the most important massive consumption retailer of my country and 2 years as a Tech Consultant for Ernst & Young ( regional experience included). I quit my job on July 2012 to help the family business grow (pet shop in the process of becoming a franchise).

I got a 650 on the GMAT and I am planning to apply to different universities such as> NYU, USC, Berkley, Emory, Babson, BU

I have two specific questions:

1) What are my chances in these schools and maybe some others with higher rankings?
2) I can obtain great rec letters from my past job (Ernst & Young) but they are not my current supervisors. Should I use those rec letters or get some from a new supervisor in my recent job in the family business?

I would say use both. Getting some from a bigger name like E&Y will help, especially because your recs from your current employer will be family members.

Honestly, NYU and Berkley will be a bit of a stretch with your numbers. In general you may want to think about the GMAT again to offset and average to below average GPA

1. Berkeley and NYU will be on the tough side of things, but I think you balance it off by having a few competitive schools and one where you are above average (BU). So hopefully this strategy should bear you fruit.
2. Good question, and it depends. If its your dad who is going to write you the recommendation, or someone totally incapable of being objective, it's probably better that you forgo the rec from the family member in favor of two recs from previous employers. However if you have some sort of "impartial manager" at the family business, that can be a go also.
