Fordham University.
( I chose them based on the list published by US News for best finance colleges)

Hi Rohan,

You have a typical IT profile and with a GMAT score of 680 the schools mentioned by you look tough. Average GMAT score of accepted Indians to all these schools is in excess of 710. Your extra currics also really dont make the case strong.

Alps, since you are looking for a career change to finance, GMAT score will play an important role. We recommend that your retake GMAT and improve your score to a 720+.

Thank you for your reply. It is a bit difficult for me to retake the test.
I have some doubts. Can you please clarify them.
Can my academic score compensate for my below average gmat score?
Can you suggest some good finance b-schools to which I have a chance to get in?
Also I have seen mixed reviews about Fordham. US News ranks it in top 20 for finance but the university is not ranked in business week. Can you give me some insight about it and whether it is worth applying there?

Thanks.

Hi rohancold,

Your academic score can offset the GMAT score to some extent. But, it will be difficult for you to break into top schools unless you have some exceptional work experience. Some of the well known finance programs are Wharton, Booth, Stern etc. The other top schools also have excellent finance programs.

If you leave aside the top schools, others can see wide swing in the rankings depending on the criteria used. Fordham, in my opinion, is not a top name in finance.

Hi Anil,
Can you guide me on which schools are good for finance and for which I have a good chance to get in. I saw the US news rankings and was surprised to see Fordham in the top 20 for finance.
It would be great if you can suggest (based on my profile) some good finance b-schools.
Thanks.
