I took GMAT two years ago and scored 530. Later I was posted to international assignment and returned back after successfully completing it. I was preparing for past 3 months & I have put lots of effort for GMAT.

I took my GMAT again today and it got bombed again with a score of 560(Q44, V26).
I belong to Indian IT Male category and i know above score is not enough in this category to get me into top schools.
I have not undergone any course and did all through self prep using OG and MGMAT guides.

I have 5 years and 8 months total experience and has been deputed for 14 months on international assignment.
I do not have any special extra curricular activities to mention except that i was part of Scout movement and involved in social service activities during my school years. I got inspired by the admission process of MBA colleges and started to work on social service activities, not for gaining admission but to help the needy.(I have started in 2010 after my first GMAT and continuing to do the same)

I will be thankful for any advice on how i should proceed.

Hi Ram,

A low GMAT is really disheartening. Although the weightage given to GMAT is not more than 20% of the entire application in any b-school. But, you need to have a certain score which matches the avg. cut-off (690/700). So, I would recommend you to write your GMAT once again. You can start with your application essays parallel to your GMAT, so that you have ample time for comprehensive preparation. Application essays & interviews constitute essential elements in b-school application process. You need to skillfully work on them to convert your chances of being admitted. Take a course and retake the GMAT. It's a very very very worthwhile long term investment!
