Atypical applicant - profile eval pls.

Profile Evaluation for Kellogg and Booth PT MBA advice from Experts appreciated

Thank you in advance for your help. I am in the process of applying for PT MBA at Kellogg and Booth and would like your advice on the strength of my application.

Doctor of Pharmacy: 3.0/4.0
Bachelor of Science; Major Biochemistry: G.P.A: 3.5/4.0
- classed included Claculus I, II, & III - got A's and physiochemistry

GMAT: 640


Professional Experience:
2007 - Present: Manager, Medical information at a mid-size pharmaceutical company
"¢ Have 5 direct reports, and report to the VP of the dept; Also responsible for clerkships (student interns) one every 6 weeks
"¢ Have had 2 promotions in the last 3 years with increasing responsibilities
"¢ In position was a field position responsible for a large territory NYC, PA, NJ, DE, MD, VA, Networked with top MDs in the field
"¢ Love being the Phama and would like to gain business experience to compliment science experience
"¢ In 3+ years have participated in 4 drug launches
"¢ Was an intern at the company and was recruited to the first position a month before graduating from pharmacy school

2008 - Present
"¢ Clinical Adjunct Professor at a College of Pharmacy
o Teaching and academic experience
o Volunteer position

2007 - 2010 Pharmacist at Walgreens
"¢ Worked part-time
- Also have pharmaceutical advertising experience and managed care experience

- one from a former Kellogg graduate (direct supervisor)
- Another from someone who has known me professionally for years.

You are a good example of the kind of diversity b-schools are seeking to make their classes more dynamic. Even though your GMAT might be considered a little below average for top schools, it is likely well within the 80% range. This, coupled with your academic achievements, should make you competitive at top schools, mostly because you are coming from a non-tradiitonal background. There are many business cases offered in top schools which have to do with the pharma industry and drug launches, and rarely do study teams have someone who can comment specifically on that industry. You should play up the uniqueness of your background and thoughtfully detail the potential value it will bring to the classroom. Good luck!
