I'm planning to join a full time MBA program in any of top 20 US b-schools. Here is my profile. could you experts be so kind as to review it and advise me on which schools I have a realistic chance.

Profile:
Country : India
Degree : Bachelor of Engineering (B.E)
Branch : Computer Engineering
GPA : 3.0 (80.3% 1st rank in my branch in College)
University : Rajasthan University

Work Experience :

1)Company : vWorker.com
As a freelancer : software designer
Duration : 11 months (May 2007 to Apr 2008)
Worked for clients from all over the world and got very good recommendations/testimonials

2)Company : IT (include Accenture etc.)
Designation : Senior Consultant
Duration : 3 Years 4 months (Apr 2008 - Present)
Worked in business intelligence and worked on IBM planning software. Took several initiatives to improve project performances, achieved 2 IBM certifications and became a certified Solution Expert in the field. In my domain I create models for companies to do their budgeting, planning and forecasting.
Created intellectual property for Accenture.

3) Founder of a website which helps students plan their careers

Duration: 5 months

Extracurricular activity wise I've won a couple of awards in technical quizes at college time, won district level chess competition while in school, run a blog in my technical field and also a youtube channel. Using these 2 I help consultants learn the basics of tool.

a few schools i've thought of:
HBS
Carnegie Mellon
Stanford
Wharton
Columbia
Dartmouth
UCLA
McCombs
NUS

I've not yet attempted a GMAT although preparing for it, accident in Apr introduced delay in my plans. My question is do i stand a chance in any of the top 20 US bschools. My plan is to do technical consulting after MBA for companies such as Accenture/deloitte/IBM etc. as I've always been good technically and right mba will give me an edge.

In the long run (15 years down the line) I want to start my own venture (internet based). I keep creating new websites even now, but opting to work full time for a company (instead of entrepreneurship) because of risk and economic limitations.

Well sir,
It is hard to say what your chances are without your GMAT score, cause a lot will depend on that. But besides that, I do especially like your number 3 - founder of website, which shows initiative and leadership. Just as important though will be how much LEADERSHIP you have in your workplaces. |Getting certifications and being an expert is relatively unimportant in comparison to the speed and height of your career progress, and your leadership.
As for which schools to apply to, it's probably wiser to ask that Q again with your GMAT.

Cheers!

Thank you very much Mr. Frank for taking time to answer my question. About the GMAT score, i've been preparing and based on all the tests i've been taking i think I can bet safely on 710. Does that help you see the picture clearer.

Kindly let me know what are my realistic chances now in any one of the schools i've mentioned.

Thank you very much again.

Well, assuming a 710, you'd be facing an uphill battle at Harvard and Stanford. Wharton would be tough too (but you could certainly apply to all! if you have time :)
The other schools in your list would be more in your target range, but like I wrote above, you gotta at least go for some of your dream schools.

I agree that with your undergraduate school and a 710 that HBS and Stanford would be very difficult.

I would suggest taking a look at our rankings compilation page (https://www.mbaprepadvantage.com/blog/mb ... -rankings/) and looking at the top 25 schools. Then go to the Career Services page for each school and download the Employment Report. Cross-reference your target technology consulting firms with the companies that recruit from these schools. If there is a match you have a target school. This exercise is useful for determining the least selective schools that will still help you accomplish your goals and thus maximize your chances for attending an MBA school next year.
