Need your suggestion

by umaa » Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:50 pm
Hi Stacy,
Can you suggest me which is the best time to apply and chances of going through?

- BE Engineering - GPA - 3.7 (84%)
- GMAT with breakdown - Going to take; Probably around 650
- Worked in a software development company as an assistant marketing manager. Joined that company as a fresher and became an assistant marketing manager after 3.7 years. Managed a team with 3 people. resume highlights, including company name, job titles and promotions
- Country: India
Going to join in a non-profit now. Might get some 2 months experience before I apply.

My situation:
Came to US in H4 (No permit to work). I'm in a position that I need to join in a good business school this year itself. Can't sit at home for around 2 years.

Will I get a chance if I apply in 3rd round? Please let me know.

Dear umaa,

With the limited amount of information provided, specifically GMAT score and target schools, I really can't comment on your chances. Once you know your GMAT score, then you will have a better idea of where you will be competitive. Gaining admission in the third round is always tough, but smaller regional programs will be your best bet as their application volume is lower than the ranked programs. Ideally, your GMAT score should be at or above the average for the best chance.

Good luck,
Lisa

Thanks a lot Lisa. I'll update you once I wrote my GMAT. BTW, I'm doing PGDBA - Post graduate diploma of business administration in distance learning. Will this affect me in any way? Do I need to mention that in my profile?

I worked with my company's COO, CEO and practice managers. I can manage get good recos from my department's practice manager and COO. Since I have experience in Marketing, I'd like to persue my career in marketing. Can you please tell me where can I get the list of best business schools for Marketing?

Thanks in advance
