Profile Evalution help please!

by goodday » Fri Jul 01, 2011 10:27 am
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could weigh in on whether I have a shot at getting into the part time MBA program at NYU Stern (spring 2012).

3.1 from Northwestern university (BA in religious studies and chemistry)
3.6 from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (MSPH in health policy and bioethics)

I have worked in a variety of places (internships mostly) including research settings in NY, Baltimore, and Mexico, a think tank in DC, and the AMA in chicago. Presently I work in the worldwide policy department at Pfizer in NY. While at Northwestern I was on the executive board of my sorority for 3 years and I have taught SAT/ACT prep classes for the past year on the side.

As you can see I have a very diverse background but I am pretty young (23 year old female) so I don't have years and years of consistent professional experience, especially since I have almost always been in school. I love the work I am doing at Pfizer and I would like to continue working there which is why I need a part time program in NYC. In order to achieve my professional goals at Pfizer though, I need to round out my business and management background which is relatively lacking.

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!

goodday,

You have two issues: GPA and work experience. Stern's Langone program has an average GMAT is 674, but your undergrad GPA is something you should try to compensate for. A 700 plus would do that. Langone's age range in months is 28 months to 108, so you will need about 2 years of experience to be in the game. Another issue is how much leadership you can show them. Hopefully there is more than just the sorority. You do have a number of assets (unusual academic/professional background, rigorous undergrad programs, international experience, gender), so they would be rooting for you. Feel free to send me your resume for a closer look: [email protected].
