Profile Evaluation: Indian

by apoorva2212 » Mon Jul 15, 2013 8:01 am
Hi,
Please evaluate my profile.
Education: Bachelor of Engineering from a one of the top 15 engineering colleges in India.
GPA: 3.5/4
Work-Experience: 2 years as a software engineer in Accenture.
Age: 24 Gender: Female
GMAT Score: 720
Certifications: CFA Level 1, Microsoft dot net certifications.
I plan to apply next year to top 30 bschools. However, I am in a dilemma at the moment. Should I continue my job at Accenture or should I join a NGO fulltime for a year? Please suggest.

Please suggest if I can do anything else to make my profile interesting.

Is the job at the NGO a step in your career path? I would not advice applicants merely to move jobs just to make themselves more attractive to MBA school. Also, if you are wishing to switch from technology to business, do you have that opportunity at Accenture?

Assuming a 1st class degree you stand a very good shot at the schools outside of the top 15 and depending on the rest of your profile you are varying degrees competitive for the 8-14.

Good luck,

Hi,

Thanks for a reply. I really appreciate the same.
I will quit the company if I have to join a NGO. I do not have any opportunities to shift from technology to business at the moment. I am of the opinion that I can do a fair amount of work and impact more lives than what I do today. I have always been very passionate about teaching and would like make a difference to a few if it does not harm me(Make a negative impression on my application).
Also,I am contemplating on starting a NGO.

Please suggest.

I pretty much agree with Michael. I mean Accenture won't help you necessarily if it's not what you want to do. But before you leave Accenture you should maybe see if you can get into their Nonprofit Consulting practice. After all, this is exactly in your domain. (unless of course, the NGO offer is more interesting).

General:Hi, I am 27yr female(married), with 4yrs of work-ex in Public sector Undertaking.

Acads: 10+2 years of schooling, 4 year B.Tech program (Metallurgical Engineering) from a top-25 college in India.

Job profile: Precisely me role is to study and decide upon production feasibility of a new trade enquiry at an integrated steel plant. I look after the customer satisfaction index, co-ordination of internal orders and related activities. you know how stereotype is a public sector way of working. My greatest achievement was when I changed the complete process in my domain and dramatically reduced the response time to enquiries and sped up the whole process for various jobs. I have had exposure to real production environment of steel making.

Extra curricular: am a painter by hobby. Have participated successfully in various events. And have got state level recognition for the same. Currently trying my hands on folk-painting. Have interest in different paint media. Plan to learn more of them.

After pursuing MBA and with some industry exposure, may be 5-10yrs I would like to move to entrepreneurship. It would be something with my interest in art.

I expect a GMAT score 700+/-20. If that won't do, please suggest what GMAT score I should target? What schools can I apply to?

Hi Rohit,

Though your GMAT score is a bit average but your come from a very diverse background. ISB gets very few applicants from legal/ litigation background.

But the biggest challenge is that ISB rejects a lot of them simply because the kind of role they are looking for is not offered by any company which comes to ISB for placements.

So, if you can nail down that aspect then you can reach the interview table.

Feel free to contact us for any queries.
