Hi there,
I'm a canadian interested in completing a MBA (hopefully in Canada). I'm interested in technology commercialization and innovation.
My background is
B.Sc (Hons) with a focus in Geology from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Overall GPA is 2.9 however this is really an indication of immaturity and lack of focus in my early years. In my final two years my GPA was 3.5.
I spent 2 years working for a geological consulting company as a field geologist and the moved to a major mining company (6 months) where I was promoted to project geologist. I don't intend on starting the MBA program until the fall of 2010 so i'd have another year and a half of work experience before I began. I've already run multiple field exploration camps where I have been in charge of logistics, accounting, personnel etc. Also i'm not sure whether this is important but the commodities i've worked with in my career have been primarily gold and uranium.
Like I said I would prefer to stay in Canada and the schools i'm interested in are University of Alberta, University of Toronto, York University, University of British Columbia, Laurier University and University of Calgary.
I'm wondering what kind of GMAT score would make me competitive at some of these schools ? Also I would imagine being a geologist applying for an MBA would give me a slight advantage as I doubt there are many geologists thinking of going this route, is there any truth to this ?
Thanks
G
