HBS Optional essay

by bluegmat700 » Wed Aug 29, 2012 5:47 am
I'm working on my HBS application and wanted to know whether I should address my 3.15 GPA in the 500 character optional section; given that its is not sub 3.0 GPA. (GMAT 710)

In addressing my GPA I was planing on writing about my first year performance, as my grades were:

1st year: 2.43
2nd year: 3.14
3rd year: 3.41
4th year: 3.67

As a side note: my undergraduate school is Boston University which has historically taken steps to combat grade inflation, hence they have a mean GPA of about 3.0, don't know if this factors into the equation.

Should I use this section to address my GPA? Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!!!

Absolutely. This is well below the average - don't use up too much space, though. You can probably get something else in as well.

You should also highlight the improvement year on year. That probably is equally important.
