Profile Evaluation Request

by sutosb » Thu Oct 13, 2011 11:11 pm
Hi,

Could you please evaluate my profile? My dream school is MIT Sloan, but I suffer from low GPA.

Here below some results :
GMAT : 690 (q 80%, v 88%)
GRE : quants 750-800 (above 90%) ; verbal 580-610 (above 80%)
GPA : 2.73 / 4.00 (ranked 60th among 270 graduates)
WE : 6+ (2 years engineering, 4+ years product&pricing)

I am a mechanical engineering graduate from the best engineering school in my country. (PS : I am woman )
I ranked within the 0,2% in nationwide university entrance exam (ranked 2700 / 1.500.000)
I graduated ranking first from my high school (with maths&science major)

Professional background :
Started working as a body design engineer in a major automotive company R&D deparment for 2 years. Was responsible for design changes on seats&restraints, and interior trim.

Changed jobs to another automotive company, but this time started working in Product&Pricing in marketing department.
  • Promoted 2 times, in 4 years.
In 4 years, succesfully launched more than 10 new models (increased model share of all models.)
Currently manage a product portfolio of 36 models and 20 dealers
Currently, manage a team of 1 :) (due to economic crisis...)
Even though I had no experience in marketing, I ran a web site project for the company (2009), earned the most prestigious Web Site Design Award in my country. Increased number of users by 900%, increased average time on site more than 300%
(I have other accomplishments but this had the most awards and striking results.)

Academic background and reasons for my low GPA :
  • I plan to take full responsbility for my low GPA, but even though it is still very very low compared to other applications, I also would like to stress that with that low GPA, I ranked 60th among 270 graduates, nearly within the 80%. Only around 30 people were above 3.0 GPA in my class, which is a general attitute of my professors and my department.

For the first two years, I worked as a voluntery lecturer in a foundation to tutor children in rural areas in my country.

I was also a member of Robotics Society and participated in 1st annual Sumo Robo Competition and build a Sumo robot with my team mates.

My graduation thesis was a haptical hand device design and production, for which my team received an AA due to out-of-the box design.

    Extracurricular activites :
    • I play the piano since I was seven. I play a variety of music from Mozart to Metallica from Yann Tiersen to Muse on the piano. I gave several concerts in my town when I was at secondary and high school as an emerging artist. From university and on, I play for my own (no concerts).

      3D modelling
Vow, now that I read it again that's been too long... :)

Thanks in advance to anyone, who spends time to read my profile...

One final addition to my long long profile, I speak Turkish, English and a little bir German.

During my third year in university, I attended Goethe Institute (for my German) for a year, and also spent two weeks in Wien in a speaking class. German is also in my undergrad transcript, since I took an elective "Intermadiate German Class" during my fourth year.

Middle East Technical University is one of the best schools in Turkey. If you had a higher GMAT you would be even more competitive, but being a female applicant helps.

Apply to MIT Sloan but apply to less selective schools that will still help you accomplish your goals.

Best of luck,
