Hi Richa--

Your basic "stats" of GMAT and academics should qualify you for most any good MBA program. The way to choose a program, though, depends largely on your career goals - what do you want to do with the education? Not only will that help you select appropriate schools to target, but having a clear sense of your goals will help the schools' adcoms see whether you're a good fit for what they offer. So that's a pretty important first step in the process. Other factors should also be considered, such as personal preferences regarding the size of the program (very large school vs smaller class size); location (urban or more rural); geography (if in the US, where? or, Europe? or stay in India?).

With just two years of work experience, you're on the younger side - many of the top US and European programs prefer older candidates, with 5 years of experience as average. Schools like Kellogg, Wharton, ISB, LBS, and many others are in this category. Some schools are much more open to a range of ages, including Harvard, Chicago, and some of the Spanish schools like ESADE. So another criteria for you to use in selecting a program would be simply what is the average age or level of work experience that they typically accept.

Keep in mind that many schools will want to understand why you need to come to the U.S. for your graduate education - it can be very helpful for them if you articulate why you need the experience of coming to school in America (or, respectively, Europe) in order to achieve your goals. So this should be included as part of your pitch to them.

It sounds like you have some interesting elements to your profile. Your challenge of course will be in communicating the highlights of your background in terms of leadership and impact in a way that helps you stand out from the pack of other candidates "like you" applying (Indian IT etc). The fact that you started the group in college, and you've started this business earlier this year, are both pluses. The schools look at the full package, and it appears that you have plenty that you can start to leverage in making for a compelling pitch.

If you want to ask about specific schools, feel free!

Hi Richa,

For B school shortlisting two things go hand in hand- profile and preferences. You have provided details about your profile but not your preferences e.g. which domain do you want to want in post MBA, how much do you want to spend 20, 40 or 60 lacs, for how long can you stay out of India and so on.

You can put up a request for B school shortlisting on our website and we will send you a shortlist.
