Any advice would be helpful!

Scored a 710 on my GMAT Q44 V42
Went to a top 3 undergrad business program/top 20 university
GPA 3.43 (was 3 almost 4 majors in 4 years)
Class 2010 undergrad

Caucasian Male from Southeast

Graduated and after a stint in big consulting, started my own marketing consulting company and a tech/boo/gov start up
Exited 1 of those agencies (very small acquisition)

Pretty active in community. Have taught university seminars, done panels, even been on TV a couple times.

Would like to get into Stanford or Harvard but don't know if that is realistic with my scores.

Thanks for sharing your profile.

Your GMAT score, particularly on the Quant section can still improve to be more in line with the average stats of the top schools.

However, to stand out, you would need to demonstrate what makes you unique from the pools of applicants with similarly impressive GMAT and GPA scores. Demonstrating leadership, innovation and motivation through personal essays that show fit with your target schools and how you can contribute will boost your chances.

Wish you all the best!

While you might be able to show how you are interesting by discussing the size of your business (if it is large enough to be impressive), I don't recommend applying in round 3.

Your GMAT score is well below the average for your demographic / career profile and your GPA will not help either. Round 3 is very tough to get in, so if you are below the average on stats it is more likely to not work out.

I recommend focusing on improving the GMAT and developing your story for round 1 this fall. If you would like to talk about tutoring to raise your score, send me an email as that should be your first step. You are not likely to succeed with the 710 unfortunately. [email protected]

Best,
Scott

Hi scotttakinggmat,

Thanks for sharing your profile! Based on the information you provided, I find your entrepreneurship experience quite impressive and interesting, something that could truly differentiate you from the pack as long as you can showcase the impact of your ventures. These experiences can demonstrate leadership, risk-taking, and other valuable qualities that the adcom is looking for. Just make sure to clearly articulate your need for an MBA in discussing your post-business school goals, particularly if you plan to continue as an entrepreneur after graduation.

If you have your heart set on Harvard and Stanford, I agree with the other responses that you should consider re-taking the GMAT and aim for a 20-30+ point improvement, and apply for round 1/fall 2017 intake. MIT Sloan and Haas could be interesting options for you as well.

If you have any questions or would like to further discuss your MBA plans, you can contact us via our website www.vantagepointadmissions.com. We'd love to hear from you!

Best of luck!
