MBA in INSEAD

by abdsau99 » Fri Sep 16, 2011 11:48 am
Dear Stacy,

I'm aiming for an MBA from INSEAD. I have done a beacholors in Finance from Pakistan. In addition to my native language, I speak English and French fluently. I've scored a 740 in my GMAT recently. I have a little over two years of work experience. I am a self employed professional in Saudi Arabia in the field of Air conditioning. I have made considerable progress in my business (both financially and staff population). My only trouble is this. My CGPA back in undergrad was 2.87. What do you think are my chances and what areas can I work on to compensate for a low GPA.

Dear abdsau99,

Your 740 does help mitigate a low GPA to some degree as it shows evidence you have the aptitude for business school. You can also write an optional essay, or perhaps within another essay topic, noting your professional achievements based on qualities that will be necessary to succeed in business school (i.e., motivation, commitment, analytical/quant skills, teamwork skills, etc.). Similarly, you could take a couple of classes to demonstrate your ability to earn high marks while juggling other responsibilities like work. Finally, all of the other application components--resume, essays, recommendations, interview--can balance a weakness, so do not discount the importance of any piece of your application. If you can find a way to balance the low GPA and make a convincing case your academic performance in business school will be better, than you have a shot.

Good luck,
Lisa
