Hello,

Before I ask inquire about MBA admissions consultants, let me provide some of my background with you. I'm a recent graduate from Baruch College and received a BBA in Finance. Currently, I'm working as a bank examiner for an agency under the Dept. of Treasury. I intend to go back for my MBA 5 years from now. I read a blog in BusinessWeek that outlines what one should do in the 5 years leading up to business school. Would an MBA admissions consultant add any additional value at this point? Or would it be wise to wait until I'm ready to start filling out applications? Thanks.

Hi B,
As a completely biased Admission Consultant myself.... let me tell you what I really think....

Haha.. just kidding. If you are 5 years out from applying, then there is no need for an Admissions Consultant. Instead, I would strongly recommend you reading a popular MBA Admission book. I am a HUGE fan of those books, as they give you great insight into the admission process. Yes, 5 years is too early to really do anything - but can give you guidance in terms of preparing for when you do apply (i.e. getting good leadership experience at work, picking up extra curricular / volunteer activities early on, taking post-grad classes in Stats/Acct to boost your academic profile).

My favs are 'Getting Into a Top MBA Program' and 'Your MBA Game Plan'

Good luck!
