Profile Evaluation Please

by Jaders883 » Thu Sep 17, 2009 3:38 pm
Hey Stacy,

Thank you so much in advance for the advice.

I graduated from a top 30 University (world news and report standards) with a degree in communications. My GPA was about a 3.7. The only problem was that I wasn't the best student (getting caught for plagarism and even having an F on my transcript!). At the time I was someone who didn't care about my education or just about anything for that matter.

Since graduation I have spent my time doing non profit works (2 with 2 peace corps and 2 with the American Red Cross) and want my MBA so that I can start my own non profit and run it successfully.
I recently took the Gmats and scored a 720.

I want to hopefully attend a top 20 B-School. How bad does my past hurt me?

Thank you.

Dear Jaders883,

Plagiarism will be a concern for the admissions committees, so it is important for you to write an optional essay with a convincing argument on how you are different now. Essentially, you will want to show you have learned your lesson and are a different person. I think you should still apply to any program you feel is a good match, but realize that your past could be an issue you will need to explain beyond the optional essay.

Good luck,
Lisa
