I will be taking GMAT next month and am expecting a score b/w 680-720 as per current mocks.

My profile is as follows:

CFA level 2 candidate June, 2012.
NSE certified market professional level 1.
NCFM certifications:
i. CDSL
ii. Portfolio management (97.5%)
iii. Option Trading Strategies (92.5 %)

Other achievments:
Rank 277 National Science olympiad (Science Olympiad Foundation), 2000
rank 69 in SMO (Indian Mathematical Olympiads Foundation), 2002

No notable extra curricular

Work Ex.

TCS (Analyst) 2 yrs in dec 2011
Worked with following clients in TCS as Analyst:
Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs
Citibank, Singapore

Areas of interest:
Strategy based trading in derivatives.Have been trading for around 4 yrs now with occasional breaks.

I am not sure which colleges should I target based on aforementioned score and profile.
What I am looking for is post graduation in Finance from the best college within reach in accordance with my profile and GMAT score range.

The colleges I have in mind are: ISB, NTU, NUS. Not sure about colleges like booth, Columbia and other Ivy league.

Please guide on some (both "worth taking a call" as well as "safe") colleges.

Your experience is on the lower side.

As far as finance MBA goes, add Yale to the dream list. Post 680 you should make a try for Tepper.

Prepare a strong application for NUS and NTU, those are easier to get in.

You can go for the MiM programs which require less experience.

To be honest, it's hard to say with the info you gave. All the technical info you gave regarding your profile,
i.e.:
CFA level 1 (CFA Institute, USA) dec,2010.
CFA level 2 band 10 (not cleared) june, 2011.
CFA level 2 candidate June, 2012.
NSE certified market professional level 1.
NCFM certifications:
i. CDSL
ii. Portfolio management (97.5%)
iii. Option Trading Strategies (92.5 %)

is more or less irrelevant. FAR more important is things like: How big a team you work on. Your leadership experience. Whether you have any entrepreneurial experience, whether you have any international experience.

Anyhow, what I suggest is getting back to us with your REAL GMAT score and some of the above info, and we can help you choose some schools.

Hi Rohit,

I would completely agree with Jon here. You seem to be too much focused on numbers and resume bullet points. These are not the things that define you. In a B-school application, it is a clarity of goals that matter, how good a leader you are matters, how good a team player you have been, what challenges have faced and how did you tackle them etc.

These objective certifications or degrees matter only if they are directly relevant to your career goals. Even then, the signals that you show as a commitment to your goals should be beyond these.

Focus more on your work-ex now and gain as much knowledge possible that would help you in your post MBA career. Am sure with this clarity on your goals, you have ample opportunities to learn and grow in your current role and organization. As of now, try to ace the GMAT and score above 720. All the best.

In addition, the trading you have done on your own would be of interest, especially because this relates to your career goals.

Good luck on your GMAT!!!
