Handling acceptance and expectation

by nfs1 » Fri Mar 25, 2011 11:33 am
Hello:

I applied for two b-schools for fall'11 as follows -

1. UC Berkeley HAAS EWMBA - R3
2. UC Davis Part time MBA - R2

I received an acceptance from UC Davis and the school gave me till April 15th to accept the offer and send a check of $1500. I have not received any decision from HAAS yet. The application is under process. My first choice is definitely HAAS and I suspect before April 15th I might not get any decision from HAAS.

Please advice me what I can do the best?

Thanks & Regards,
Joydeep

This is not an uncommon situation and can be handled in a number of effective ways:

1) contact Davis and explore a delay option on your offer...see if you can negotiate something that will allow the Haas decision to mature. Feel free to inform Davis that you are waiting on other decisions and yet still have interest in attending.

2) contact Haas and explain that you have an exploding offer, which you will gladly terminate if you are accepted to Haas. Ask them if there is anything further you can do to help Haas say yes to your admittance. Ask them what they think their timeframe is. Since this school is your favored choice, it will be very easy to convey that to Haas in hopes of getting a decision sooner.
