Hello,

Your GMAT will be on the low side for the schools you are targeting, but the rest of your profile looks strong. Your manufacturing background will help you stand out versus the large number of purely technical applicants from India and your extracurriculars are interesting.

To be accepted at the schools on your list you would need an exceptional application and sparkling references to overcome your GMAT score. Those schools will have hundreds of applicants with comparable work experience and scores over 700. At Darden, Duke and Ross, the middle 80% starts at 645-650, meaning only 10% of the students score below those levels. Haas's middle 80% starts at 680, so your chances there would be extremely low.

That does not mean that you won't get in, simply that your chances are poor. If you are determined to go to business school in the US next year, you should find two or three "safety" schools whose profiles more closely match your own.

GMAT scores are not the only criterion, but schools are very concerned that entering students can handle the course work and the GMAT is the best predictor they have. From their perspective, if they have two applicants with similar essays, experience and references but widely divergent GMAT scores, the safest choice will always be the one who has demonstrated stronger academic potential through the test.

Good luck,
Tani Wolff
