PROFILE VALUATION FOR NANYANG MFE

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could have a shot at evaluating my profile for MFE NTU/NUS. Would be of great help.

I have an MBA in Banking and Finance (from a low ranking university in the UK) and also I have passed CFA Level I. The following are my academic scores.

BE(computer science engg, in India) 74%
MBA (Banking and Finance, in UK)65%
IELTS 8.5
GMAT - Targeting 740

No work experience except for a couple of internships.

I have more than 95% in my school math papers. I want to take up an MFE in NTU or NUS due to my great interest in the quantitative finance. Can you please let me know what are my chances in getting a call. Also, what kind of GRE/GMAT score would be likely for my application to get considered.

Hi

Its a good program to boost your career and push you in the direction of your interest. Since the competition is stiff, you need to convince them about the lack of 2 years of working experience. We have worked with students who go there without work-ex.

You will also need to hide a few low points like, low MBA percentage in your major, if any. You will need to highlight internships as turning points. Anything above 680(GMAT) is required because the number of seats are pretty less.

Average work-exp of class for NUS>NTU so you might also like to consider MAF at SMU ($28k SGD) (part time course only).

Its nice that you are interested in the design and structural side of Finance and have a complimentary CFA-L1. It is a bonus.

Yes you have a shot. But as the other poster stated you will need to overcome the preferred two year threshold. Do this by aligning your existing mathematical background, relevant coursework and your internship experiences with your post-MBA goal in quantitative finance.

Are you thinking about similar courses away from SGP or you are hell bent on SGP?

Thank you very much for your reply. Is IT work experience considered to be good for this program? I'm working as an App developer and by the time I apply for MFE I will be completing one year of work experience.

Yes, an IT background is beneficial because schools prefer to see prior exposure to computer programming (C, C++) as well as to statistical/econometric applications (SAS, Gauss, S-Plus, etc.) and mathematical tools (MatLab, MatchCad, etc.) from MFE applicants.

Are you thinking about similar courses away from SGP or you are hell bent on SGP?
Dear Paul,

Thanks very much for your reply. I am considering SGP mainly because it is cheap compared to the US. Also, does SMU have a good reputation in the industry? Starting my career in Quant roles or in hedge fund industry in a Financial Center like SGP or Hong Kong is my post MFE aim.
