Hi Admissionado
I'm yet another beleaguered aspiring MBA candidate hoping for some help! Hopefully my profile will stand apart as a 'non-traditional candidate', but if you could be so kind as to throw me a bit of advice on how to present my application, what to promote and what concerns an AdCom might have I'd be most grateful.
Stats:
31 / Male / New Zealander
BSc in Biomedical Science, MSc (1st Class) in Forensic Science
GMAT 700 (Q47 V38)
WE: 3 years as a crime scene examiner in New Zealand plus a DNA research portfolio which was an extension of my thesis. I then moved to the UK where the forensic science industry has been privatised. My job title is a Regional Account Manager and I have line management duties in that regard, although a lot of my time is taken up by working with operational and finance teams to change the way we work in reaction to a very volatile market. I also work with our international arm to bring new technology into the market.
I'm actually relatively new at this company, as the company I worked at before was government owned and was closed last year as part of the governments wish to completely privatise the market. I spent a year being involved in the closure process, right up to locking the door and managing my team through the redundancy process. In hindsight, this was a tremendously powerful experience and I grew tremendously as a manager in this time. I'm not sure how to pitch this experience in my application, or even if I should at all so any guidance you could give would be gratefully received.
Thanks a lot,!
B.
