Need your views on my application

by moneyman » Sun Oct 26, 2008 9:59 am
I am applying for the 2 yr MBA program at Babson. I have worked as an Associate Portfolio Manager after my undergrad for 10 months. While working, I planned to start my own business and then I started a Business Process Outsourcing company early this year. I am the Founder and the Director for Business Development of my company.

I am keen on getting into Babson because its strength is Entrepreneurship. I have spent a lot of time on my essays and recommendations and I have mentioned my goals clearly.

I have been running my company profitably for 9 months now and I have business partners who are involved in my business.

In one of the essays for Babson, I have been asked to explain my short term and long term goals and how my previous experience has played a part in determining my goals.

I have explained that I was fascinated by the BPO industry and hence I wanted to explore my opportunities in this business and soI started my won business. It has less to do with my previous job as it was in the finance sector but it did have some functional similarities like client relationship experience and client proposals creation.

I would like to know the adcom will view this situation.

Thanks
Maxx

Dear Maxx,

I guess I'm a little unclear on what you are asking here. Are you concerned about how your Associate Portfolio Manager job is in a different industry from your business? I would not be concerned by that at all as there are transferable skills between the two. What matters most is what you have done in your company, why you started it, how you've grown it, your plans for the future, etc. I think you are fine here, assuming I understood your question.

Good luck,
Lisa
