Data Sufficient...Please Help me....

by cocorice124 » Thu Jul 10, 2008 1:28 pm
I just start studying GMAT two days ago...I am working full time so everyday I spend 4h-5h after work to study GMAT.

My study schedule is to finish the Kaplan 2007 Book before my Virtual Veritas class next Wed so that I can have a brief ideal about GMAT.
During taking Veritas class, I will do OG Quantative and Verbal Book every other days....When I'm done with the class, I have three week before my actual test....during this time, i will just do over over the practise test...work on OG 11th, OG Quan & Verbal, Kaplan 800.

Do you think that will be sufficient time for me to prepare for my test? Im not an native English Speaker????

I studied Chapter 9-DATA SUFFICIENT in Kaplan last night.....I got a lot of wrong and got frustrated with myself....Can anyone show me the best strategy to study the DATA SUFFICIENT????
Please HELP ME...

I dont think you should evaluate yourself after two days of prep. Being a non-English speaking native is not a problem. You have not indicated when you would take the test, but I would like to say that with proper planning and effort this exam can be attacked well. I think you have planned for good amount of material to be covered. Make proper use if practice tests. Wish you good luck.
Wish you good luck

Hi Cocorice,

The best way to figure out how much studying you need to do is:

1) Take a CAT
2) Find out from your target schools what score you need
3) Study for a bit
4) Take a CAT
5) Get a sense for around how much studying you need to do to go up by X points. You'll need to keep in mind that going up by a certain interval gets harder as your score goes up.

I believe that if you are making a significant number of errors based on your English level, that your studying time would be best used with one GMAT program's tips and tricks, supplemented by study of the English language. More GMAT tips and tricks will not help you with English language issues, IMHO. You may want to consider taking an English class or hiring an English tutor. While the GMAT class will help with strategy, it will not help address your specific issues with grammar, vocabulary, etc that an English class or tutor may. I would also recommend reading as many books as you can get your hands on, and looking up words you don't know. You can also help improve your grammar by getting very familiar with Strunk and White's Elements of Style.

As far as Data Sufficiency goes, you need to become very comfortable with math topics such as Algebra, Arithmetic, and Geometry that are at the heart of the DS questions. Once you are comfortable with these topics, study DS tips and tricks, and get very familiar with its format. I agree that you should not start stressing out after 2 days of studying. These topics may take a few weeks to really come back to you.

Best wishes,

Tatiana

Thank you all so much for replying...

I will take my test on September 20 which means I have more than 2mo of serious study. I hope that will be the sufficient time.

I'm still waiting for my OG Quant book coming. Do you know any place having a lot of samples for Data Sufficient????

I know i should not stress out with just two days of studying, but i feel that i seriously need some help with this section.
