IR - scoring system

by metallicafan » Mon Jun 03, 2013 8:32 am
Hello GMAC!

I have read that in the Quant and Verbal section difficult questions have more weight than easier questions in the total scores of those sections.

I know that you cannot provide detailed information about how the scoring system works, but I would like to know, if it is possible, whether different types of questions in the new IR section have different weights. For example, maybe a table analysis question has more weight than a graph analysis question.

That would help me to know which question type I could skip or guess during the exam in the case I had to.

Thanks!

Hello, MetallicaFan! Thanks for giving me the chance to clarify the IR scoring for you. The different questions types are not weighted differently. In other words, table analysis questions, for example are not necessary of a higher or lower difficulty level than any other question type. The IR section does include questions of varying difficulty within the section, and your score is based on how many questions you answer correctly - remembering that each question may have multiple parts and you must answer each part correctly to receive credit for the question. You must be able to answer the higher difficulty questions correctly as well as the lower difficulty questions to perform well on the IR section. I suggest you familiarize yourself with each of the question types so you are prepared. Sorry-I wish I could offer you a shortcut, but with the IR section, as with all parts of the GMAT exam, you will need to answer each question to the best of your ability! Good luck
