48 % male students , 52 % female students in a school. In a graduating class, there was 40 % male and 20 % female who are 25 years and older. If one of the student in the graduating class is random selected, approx what is the probability he/she will be less than 25 years ?
Hi candygal79,
The question is perfect for TESTing VALUES.
Normally, I would test the number 100, but since this question asks us to deal with percents OF percents, I'm going to use 1,000.
Total students = 1,000
Total males = 480
Total females = 520
Males over 25 = 40%(480) = 192
Females over 25 = 20%(520) = 104
Total People OVER 25 = 296
Total People UNDER 25 = 1000 - 296 = 704
Probability of randomly selecting a person under 25 = 704/1000 =
70.4%
