Is stimuli countable or uncountable?

Hi,

Question : The brain is something of a stimulus reduction system, a means to reduce, in order to comprehend, the nearly infinite amount of stimuli that reach the senses at any given moment.

a. a means to reduce, in order to comprehend, the nearly infinite amount
b. a means to reduce, in order to comprehend, the nearly infinite number

Please someone help.

Stimulus is a count noun; b is correct :)

Amount is for uncountable nouns. Ex - Amount of Gold

Number is for countable nouns. Ex - Number of sticks

So, Answer is B

To find countability, check this
1 gold , 2 gold... Wrong ! So, Uncountable.
1 stimulus, 2 stimuli... Correct ! So, Countable.

But I am still not comfortable with considering stimuli be countable.

I mean stimuli is some force/ some action. You cant count it.
