Hi All,

I am very much confused about when to use permutation and combination in probability problems. How to identify it. And the logic to solve this kind of problems. Anybody please explain me this.

If order matters --- if ACBD will count in this context as something inherently different from BCDA, then you are dealing with permutations.

If order doesn't matter ---- if ACBD and BCDA are, for all intents and purposes, identical in this context, then you are dealing with combinations.

Do you have a specific question in mind in which you have trouble telling whether order matters? I happy to show a full solution to any GMAT question you have.
