During a sale, a clothing store sold each shirt at a price of $15 and each sweater at a price of $25. Did the store sell more sweaters than shirts during the sale?

(1) The average (aritmetic mean) of the prices of all the shirts and sweaters that the store sold during the sale was $21.

(2) The total of the prices of all the shirts and sweaters that the store sold during the sale was $420.

IMO Ans A . Stmt 1 is alone sufficient . Let n1 represent the number of shirts & n2 number of sweater .

Stmt 1 : 15n1+25n2/n1+n2 = 21 , we can deduce a ratio here so we can answer ques
Stmt 2 :15 n1 + 25 n2 = 420 . Here possible solution 1) n1 = 3, n2 = 15 2) n1 = 23, n2 =3 . We can not conclusively answer here

You have posted the question in PS forum. Please post in appropriate forums.

If the store sells equal number of shirts and sweaters, then the average would lie exactly between 15 and 25 that is 20.
If more shirts are sold than sweaters, then average will lie between 15 and 20.
If more sweaters are sold than shirts, then average will lie between 20 and 25.

(1) Since the average is 21, so the store sold more sweaters.
Hence, (1) is SUFFICIENT.

(2) is clearly NOT SUFFICIENT.
