percentage

by billyr » Sat Feb 28, 2009 8:25 am
Hi,

i just wondering why i can't get the answer, is my approach wrong?

Total employees =800
70% work at least 10 year = .7*800=560 (100% of the long term)

To reduce the long term employee to 60%, 560- (.6*560)=224
but there is no such answer
Thanks,

70% of 800 = 560 ( No of long term employees)

y of them retire and reduces the long term employees to 60%

800-y is the no fo employees after y lng term employees retire. None of them are replaced

60% of (800-y) = 560 -y

No of people retire = 200

Thanks

70% of 800 are long term emp = 560

Let the number who need to retire to bring the % down to 60 be k

560-k/800-k * 100 = 60

56000-100k = 48000-60k

40k = 8000

k = 200

Check:

560-200 = 360
800-200 = 600

360/600*100 = 60

The key here is when u subtract 200 from 560 keep in mind to do the same thing from the total 800

Regard,
CR
