In a flower shop, there are 5 different types of flowers. Two of the flowers are blue, two are red and one is yellow. In how many different combinations of different colors can a 3-flower garland be made?

a) 4.

We can combine as 2C1*2C1*1 = 4

I was just confused about the language of the question, "how many different combinations of different colours", I mean do all the colours need to be different?

As per the question, they have specifically mentioned "How many different combinations of different colours can be made for a 3-flower garland?"

The catch is on "different types" and "different colours" of flowers :)

For detailed explanation, suppose I denote the flowers as B1,B2,R1,R2,Y then "different types" and "different coloured" combinations would be -

Y,B1,R1
Y,B2,R1
Y,B1,R2
Y,B2,R2

Any combination other than above would violate the given conditions.

Hence, we need to find possibilities where we take different flowers and fulfill the condition of 3-different colours in the garland :-)
