Total number of employees = 800, out of this 70% are long term employees = 560.

Now y of the long term employees retire so number of employees left in the company = 800-y and number of long term employees = 560-y, We need a y which will make (560-y) = 6/10(800-y), solve and you will get y = 200

I'm a little confused, is the question asking for 60% of total company employee or 60% of the long term employee?

thanksss

is asking about to reduce to 60% of the long term employees

800 x 70% =560 long term employees

now if 560 is the 70% what is the 60% (in my country we use something called "rule of 3")

(560 x 60) / 70 =480 480 is the 60%

finaly the number that turns the original 70% to 60% is:
560 - 480 = 80

answ 80

There is still some amount of confusion between the answers 80 and 200 for me.

Case 1:

(560-y)/(800-y)=60%,

solving i get y = 200

Case 2:

70 % of employees are 10y+ = 560

Now it has come to 60 % , i.e 480

Difference, 560-480 = 80 = y

This is it,

I feel/know that 80 isnt the solution, but cant convince myself with a proper explanation.

Now for your help !!!

Thanks

For your second explanation, it's not 60% of 800, rather 60% of 560 which gives you 336.

Therefore 560-336= 224 which is greater than 200. so if you were to make an educated guess the answer would have to more than 200 employees for both cases hence A
