What is the area of the rectangular region pictured here?

(1) l + w = 9
(2) x^2 = 45

Answer is C

After reading the question. I thought this one to be the most easiest question, but my answer is wrong.
My choice was B.

My method:-
(2) x^2 = 45
Pythagorean theorem
x^2 = L^2 + W^2
45 = L^2 + W^2
45 = 6^2 + 3^2

What can be more possible values for L and W that make 45 ?

Please help in eliminating statement (2)

Thanks & Regards
Vinni

Vinni,

In DS you can't make such assumptions

45 = L^2 + W^2
45 = 6^2 + 3^2

or

45 = 2^2+ (root 41)^2

or

45 = 5^2 + (root 20)^2

l and w can be any possible value.
That is why C is correct because it restricts the values of l and w and l^2 and w^2
