The Carson family will purchase three used cars. There are two models of cars available, Model A and Model B, each of which is available in four colors: blue, black, red, and green. How many different combinations of three cars can the Carsons select if all the cars are to be different colors?

A) 24
B) 32
C) 48
D) 60
E) 192

The answer given is B. I would like to understand why its B and not E.

I don't know how you get the answer to be 192.

According to me you have 4C3 to select the color of the cars = 4!/3! = 4ways

Now, out of these 4 combinations you have to choose 3 cars of different colors.Each color can be selected in 2 ways(as there are 2 models). So, you have 2x2x2 = 2^3 ways of getting 3 colors.

Total numbers of combinations of three cars of different colors = 4 x 2^3
= 32 ways.

total cars = 8
3 cars of different colors = 8*6*4 = 192

since the order is not particular here = 3!
192/3! = 32
