Help with an exponent question

Hi,

My mind is spinning right now and I can't seem to figure out how to get to this answer. Please help! Thanks!

Which of the following is equal to the value of:
2^5 + 2^5 + 3^5 + 3^5 + 3^5

answer: 2^6 +3^6

Take 2^5 and 3^5 common
2^5(1+1)+3^5(1+1+1) = 2*2^5+3*3^5 =2^6+3^6

Oh, I see what you did now. After taking the common factor you are left with the two equations. Then it is simply multiplication.

So simple, yet so hard to figure it out when stuck.

When you have to add exponents, always factor

2^5(1 + 1) = 2^5(2) which is the same as 2^5(2^1).

With the rule
x^x * x^y = x^x + y

2^5(2^1) = 2^5+1 = 2^6

3^5(1 + 1 + 1) = 3^5(3) which is the same as 3^5(3^1)

With the rule
x^x * x^y = x^x + y

3^5(3^1) = 3^5 + 1 = 3^6
